An itinerary to discover on your own the Jewish heritage in Friuli Venezia Giulia, a region where cultures and traditions of different countries melt together.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY:

Day 1: Arrival in Trieste and check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon we suggest to visit Miramare Castle, a majestic building sheer above the sea, once residence of the Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg, or the Giant Grotto, the largest and most interesting tourist cavern in the world. Overnight in Trieste.

Day 2: Breakfast. Transfer on your own to Cividale del Friuli, where we suggest to visit the city centre, the Longobard Temple which preserves important art masterpieces and the National Archaeological Museum which preserves remains of the Longobard period, and gravestones of the ancient Jewish cemetery. In the afternoon we suggest to visit Gorizia, its synagogue and the Jewish Museum “Jerusalem of Isonzo” which presents the history of the Gorizia community and dedicates a session to works of painter and philosopher Carlo Michelstaedter. Overnight in Trieste.

Day 3: Breakfast. Visit of Jewish Trieste by multimedia video-guide. The itinerary will lead you through the area of the former ghetto, to the monumental Synagogue, the Jewish Museum “Carlo e Vera Wagner”, the Risiera di Sabba and many other hidden corners which will reveal you the link with the Jewish history of the city. We suggest you a stop at the historic Caffè San Marco where to taste a traditional cake. End of services.
