The community today

The Jewish community in Trieste with its approximately 600 members is point of reference for Jews living in the districts of Trieste, Udine, Gorizia and Pordenone.

The community is governed by its own statute and administered by a board. The chief Rabbi is its spiritual leader.

The community pays a lot of attention to child education and youth care. Think of the Israelite school “Isacco Sansone Morpurgo” founded in 1783 due to the Edict of Tolerance of  Emperor Joseph II and still being in use as officially recognized primary school.

The Jewish community in Trieste organizes a number of cultural events in collaboration with the Jewish Museum Carlo and Vera Wagner, the IRCE, regional institute for Jewish culture, and the ADEI, association of Italian Jewish women.
